Shane Chen is credited with allowing the first-ever, working, hoverboard with Hovertrax. Chen’s origins started in China, where he came into this world and was raised in Beijing, before emigrating with the US within the 1980’s. While still in China, Chen gained a college degree in agricultural meteorology, which resulted in his first business within America.

When landing in America, Chen created his first business. It was for CID, Inc. and it was meant to create different instruments for plants and agricultural research. Go forward 21 years and Chen was moving onto inventing products for consumers. Inventist, Inc. was Chen’s next venture in which the AquaSkipper watercraft was his first big adventure. That’s where the hoverboard begins taking its shape. The watercraft really opened the doorway for Chen, because it then resulted in a three-wheeled scooter that was licensed to RazorUSA.

Before continuing to move forward on his idea for any hoverboard of sorts, Chen took a rest to produce the Solowheel. It is a self-balancing electric unicycle that takes benefit of multiple gyroscopic sensors to be able to properly balance. After that, Chen got the concept for the hoverboard, although his first idea wasn’t successful. This primary idea was for the hoverboard created for indoor usage, even though the issue arose as he realized the wheels were too tiny to take outside.

This prototype was named ‘The Purple Board’ and even though it had been failing, it opened the doorway with the hoverboard we all know nowadays. Rather than placing the wheels underneath the rider’s feet, Chen opted to go these to the exterior from the board. Creating this change will make it feasible for both capability to ride inside, but additionally outside, with minimal to no issues. After that, the Hovertrax came into this world and also the first “hoverboard” is made accessible to the general public in 2013. In 2014, Chen was granted the patent for your Hovertrax, giving Invents the rights with the style of this unique kind of hoverboard. Since that time, there has been a number of different copycats, which Chen and the company still battle against today.

Hoverboard Recalls and Safety

These copycats have primarily been manufactured from China and resulted in full of recall in 2015. Those seeking to save some dollars bought these inferior products and discovered they would result in a fire. The Individual Product Safety Commission got involved and issued official recalls on many products once they put together being unsafe.  Since that time, many retailers have added stipulations for their requirements, which claim that no hoverboards could be sold that come under the recall. Since the Hovertrax has been produced and it is available for purchase, Chen continues to go forward. His company’s latest unit is the IOTAtrax, that is a single-wheeled ridable. The IOTAtrax is capable of doing traveling as much as 10 mph and works whether or not you’re inside and out.

It’ll definitely be interesting to determine where Chen ranges from here, but his eyes will be on the heavens. While it’s unlikely that we’ll view a true hoverboard (such as the one in Back for the Future), it’s entirely possible that Shane Chen may be the mastermind behind all of it.
